We’re hosting a Bristol screening of the National Emergency Briefing (NEB) film – titled the People’s Emergency Briefing. The NEB aims to create a social tipping point towards genuine emergency action on the climate and nature crisis.
Our screening is on Thursday 9 July at the Arnolfini arts centre, followed by a chaired discussion and audience Q&A. The event will run from 17:30 to 19:30. Drinks, nibbles and networking will follow.
This event is being supported by Burges Salmon, Parmenion, B Local Bristol and Bath, and Arnolfini arts centre.
What is the National Emergency Briefing?
The National Emergency Briefing took place in November 2025. Leading experts set out evidence on the climate and nature crisis in a formal briefing for national decision-makers. The fear is that politicians aren’t telling the public the full truth or acting with the urgency needed. Following the event, the NEB decided to spread the word amongst the public and urge MPs to act, through this call for community screenings.
“There is clear evidence that urgent action will strengthen our economy, resilience, and quality of life. The National Emergency Briefing exists to help create a societal tipping point towards the action now required.” – NEB
What is the People’s Emergency Briefing film about?
The film presents an accessible overview of the evidence on climate and nature risks to British life and the UK economy, drawing on expertise spanning climate science, food security, health, economics, national security and nature. It’s hard-hitting, laying out the challenges, while also offering some hope. This one-hour film is accessible to everyone and a great introduction to these issues.
The NEB believes that the government is not briefing the nation on the most important issue of our time, and this is a call to action for people to step up and share this critical information. Audiences consistently leave wanting to take action, such as asking their MP to support the Parliamentary Call (for a prime-time televised emergency briefing), and to create more screenings until a televised national briefing happens.
The purpose of the Briefing is to support informed democratic discussion and ensure that public institutions, businesses and communities share a common understanding of the scale and urgency of the challenge – and the economic opportunities that flow from responding at pace.
Why is Paradigm Norton involved?
As a local B Corp company that aims to be a force for good, we believe that great financial planning is about helping people live thoughtfully and wisely in the world. Some of the environmental and social changes now underway will shape that world in increasingly practical ways. This will affect our communities, our families, the economy and the longer-term context in which financial decisions are made.
We think this film will allow audiences to have the chance to engage with the topics raised. We hope it provides a shared evidence base for a constructive discussion in Bristol about the implications for organisations, governance and forward planning.
In addition to other screenings taking place in Bristol, we’re hoping to offer something unique by engaging senior professionals, business leaders, trustees, advisers, and civic voices, perhaps including people who aren’t particularly engaged with climate and sustainability issues.
This will be a calm, evidence-led evening – not an activism event – using the film as a shared baseline for a serious conversation about risk and response. We are offering this viewing opportunity to clients and anyone interested in tickets, with all proceeds going to the Global Returns Project (GRP) who support climate and nature charities.
Why watch the People’s Emergency Briefing film?
For organisations and their networks, these issues are increasingly practical: public health, resilience, supply chain stability, insurance, workforce health, energy prices, and long-term investment. Many people and business clients are asking for credible engagement, and we think this format makes it easier to engage without posturing.
“These issues are not abstract. If you’re part of the local business community or a civic leader, this film is essential viewing.” – Steve Watters, Paradigm Norton’s Head of Impact
You may not know much about the full-scale risks to people, the UK economy or the ongoing damage to nature and the climate. This sets out the risks and how this will affect you, presenting a clear, measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain, and what the evidence says about risks and responses.
Offering glimmers of hope
The good news is that the technology and solutions already exist to do most of what we need to do – the problem is the implementation. Today, if an organisation emits carbon or damages biodiversity, it often won’t cost them anything – it’s a systemic flaw – the market is blind to external impacts.
We need a way of organising societies and economies that account for environmental and social costs. History shows rapid societal shifts are possible and we should focus on positive tipping points. Change can happen faster than most people expect, and we want everyone who sees the film to feel empowered.
