Charitable giving & Philanthropy

How to approach philanthropy

We believe that those who do more for others are the happiest.

Traditionally, in financial planning, giving money away has often been regarded as an optional extra open to the minority who have surplus wealth or perhaps to those who have a strong social conscience. However, we have noticed a change with an increasing number of our clients listing charitable giving as one of their key financial planning goals.

Our role as your Financial Planner is to guide you on how best to manage your money to meet your life goals. The creation of a lifetime cash flow plan will demonstrate your capital position and your capacity to give. Led by your beliefs and wishes we can help you to determine your approach to charitable gifting.

The options available

Reviewing your capital position and ensuring you have sufficient capital to meet your lifetime goals will determine if you can afford to make a gift to charity, benefit social enterprises through Social Investment Tax Relief (SITR) and/or engage in impact investing. If your desire to gift money is affordable, we will review your cash balances and investment portfolio to decide which assets should be realised to make a gift. By way of example, a gift from your portfolio may be more tax efficient than a gift from cash avoiding capital gains tax, reducing the capital gains tax on your remaining portfolio and potentially also providing income tax relief.

We will help you understand your potential to give, either during your lifetime, via your estate or through a combination of the two.

Why choose Paradigm Norton?

Paradigm Norton were an early adopter of philanthropy as one of the cornerstones of financial planning.

Where appropriate we have been encouraging our clients to include philanthropy within their overall financial planning goals for a number of years. Our experience of charitable gifting (and impact investing) has been the reason some of our clients have become clients, knowing that our advice would embrace their philanthropic goals. A number of other clients have either become philanthropists or have been able to be more generous than they once envisaged as a result of our planning advice.

If we can help you and your family, or friends, please get in touch with any of the Paradigm Norton team, after all, we are here to help. You can call us on 01275 370670 or 020 7269 7960. Money matters, but life matters more.
