Empowering Engagement – How Paradigm Norton is encouraging the investment industry to change

Written by Steve Watters, Head of Impact

We’re committed to helping to build a more engaged financial adviser community by promoting fund manager accountability.

Back in 2023, our Head of Impact, Steve Watters, spoke at the Impact Investment Academy conference. Run by Worthstone, the conference theme was Agents of Change and it delved into how advisers can best meet the needs of sustainable investors. Following this event, we partnered with Worthstone to extend the Agents of Change initiative to help other advisers advocate for a more sustainable future.

The initiative achieved commitment from 34 advisers to take action and then brought together 15 advisers in person from a wide range of companies to help amplify our collective voice when engaging with fund managers.

Alongside the panel discussions and thought-provoking presentations, Steve shared some questions you can ask a sustainable fund manager to gain insights about their activities and depth of commitment. He set out to encourage advisers and fund selectors to think more deeply about shareholder engagement. In particular, he sought to equip them with tools to do this effectively by sharing our experiences.

There’s power in the collective and we strongly believe that – together – advisers and their clients can encourage fund managers to hold organisations to account and invest accordingly. This is about urging fund managers across the whole profession to raise standards.

Paradigm Norton continues to innovate in how we hold fund managers to account and advocate for positive changes. Every financial adviser’s participation is crucial in amplifying our collective voice and driving change in the market.

If you’re an adviser who would like to join us in this movement and be a part of advocating for a sustainable future, you can access the engagement survey on the Worthstone website.
